ʻEkolu Mea Nui seeks to transform Hawai‘i’s justice system through Native Hawaiian cultural practices and values to manifest a pono justice system that heals and empowers individuals, ‘ohana, and communities, and to innovate alternatives to incarceration, restore the human spirit, build resilient ‘ohana, and change laws and policies.
Their work comes from their own families and communities who have been directly affected by incarceration, and from a deep concern for the ongoing harm our people face within an intergenerational system of confinement and disconnection. They are part of the story ~ listening, responding, and acting in ways that honor culture, relationships, and ʻike kūpuna, creating pathways for healing, leadership, and transformation to ensure that our people are seen, valued, and supported no matter the challenges.
