Hawai’i Rising Hosts and Producers

Mahalo nui loa to Kenji Cataldo and Tsuyuno Amos for bringing this project to life! They both participated in HPF’s 2021 Giving Project cohort, and the Hawai‘i Rising podcast is a beautiful development of the work they shared together during the inaugural Giving Project sail.

Kenji Cataldo

Co-Host & Producer

Kenji Cataldo (they/them) serves on the amplification team as Kāko’o Ho’omohala, co-hosting and producing HPF’s podcast Hawai’i Rising. As a living archive of community action, Hawai’i Rising amplifies grassroots voices in the present and documents stories of courage, resilience, and hope for future generations. Kenji is honored to steward the stories of HPF’s ʻohana of changemakers and has been deeply moved and inspired by the opportunity to deepen pilina with HPF’s grantees across Hawai’i.

Kenji was born in Japan, raised in the u.s., and has lived on O’ahu since 2020. Kenji first became involved at HPF as part of the first Giving Project cohort in 2021, which inspired the development of Hawai’i Rising. Kenji is currently a graduate student in Pacific Islands Studies at UH Mānoa, and their research documents grassroots organizing for demilitarization and deoccupation. Kenji is thrilled to be part of HPF in this moment of growth and to hold space for reflection, connection, and storytelling in this next phase of collective action.

Tsuyuno Amos

Co-Host

Tsuyuno Amos (she/they) is a crucial part of HPF’s Ho’omohala Team, bringing greater amplification and advocacy for our grantees’ work. Her kuleana in amplification has grown HPF’s reach exponentially, creating an expansive library of connections weaving together a robust community of social changemakers. Co-hosting the Hawai’i Rising podcast has offered incredible intimate moments to deepen pilina with HPF grantees, and has spread the word far and wide about the great work they are doing. The global reach of Hawai’i Rising continues to expand community pilina with HPF partners in innovative ways.

Tsuyuno was born on O’ahu and grew up in Mililani. Whenever and wherever possible, Tsuyuno likes to mālama ‘āina at their home in Mililani, or volunteer with community groups. As a multi-faceted individual, they excitedly call in their multiple passions and skillsets to uplift the important work Hawai’i People’s Fund does alongside our beloved community. Tsuyuno’s entry into the HPF ‘ohana coincided with an extremely expansive moment in the history of HPF, heralding a new era of community in-reach and awareness.
