Mālama Mākua

Malama Makua regards ka ʻāina Mākua as the parent to all of us. Their work creates an environment of health and wellness, and they have shifted their goals to focus on peace as the element that most reflects what Mākua stands for and what she needs to thrive. ʻĀina care is foundational and what is needed to thrive, requiring a reframe of what care means: no more live fire training, cleaning up UXO and other poisons from the ground above and below, developing kind and caring relationships with others in the context of ʻāina (encompassing all ʻāina on Oʻahu’s westside as an extension of Mākua), helping people thrive, practicing aloha at every opportunity, not taking no for an answer, standing our ground, knowing our history, and loving and respecting our kūpuna. They believe that society will change when we change ourselves and our practices, and exhibit those practices in our dealings with other communities. They are building community via citizen diplomacy and coalition building as the next step to meet the goal of peace, with justice and with aloha, in Mākua and across Hawaiʻi.
