PBC is a professional community-based collective growing a network of service providers and island families dedicated to education, support, and advocacy for birth and wellness choices across Hawai’i.
PBC hit the ground running on August 10 by opening their facility to the community as a donation site for items specific to pregnant and birthing families and those with young children. At their new physical space in Ha’ikū, they’ve had a constant stream of donations from mothers with young children, giving all the things they know a mom who has lost it all will need. In the first weeks, Board members offered prenatal and birth services, delivering food by jetski and boat, finding homes for laboring women and those with newborns, and listening to the needs of community and responding. Since the disaster, PBC has gathered and distributed thousands of diapers and wipes, formula, hundreds of bags of clothing, and over a 100 boxes of period products directly into the hands of those who need it most.
Pacific Birth Collective is partnered with the Ma’i Movement, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, Malama Na Pua o Haumea, Baby2Baby, and Maui Rapid Response and are collaborating on relief efforts with Kalauokekahuli, Maui Breastfeeding Support, and other local on the ground cooperatives.
