Protecting Oceania

Protecting Oceania brings together Pasifika philosophers and grassroots organizers to forge new alliances, formations, strategies, and tactics rooted in their own worldviews, to determine how best to address those issues causing the most harm to Pacific peoples. Their hope is that the Protecting Oceania convening is only the beginning of setting a new agenda of collective self-determination for the Pacific in the 21st century.

Protecting Oceania is predicated upon the collective desire and experience of Kanaka Maoli and Pacific Islander community organizers, educators, philosophers, and cultural practitioners to build collective power, develop lasting institutions and create new long term strategies, beyond mobilizations and protests, to defeat those who seek to bring harm to island nations of the Pacific and slow the violence of the war economy. Built out of the legacy of the Nuclear Free and Independent Pacific, Protecting Oceania will engage with the lessons learned from those who came before us, seeking to determine the chokepoints in the u.s. and Australian war machines and bring the Pacific that much closer to regaining independence and ending the US occupation of Hawaiʻi and beyond.
